I have always loved Deadly is the Female and since I haven’t been able to visit their physical store, I have bought in their online shop many a times. They carry an amazing range of high quality clothing such as Vixen by Micheline Pitt and Stop Staring!
So when I had the chance to be featured on their favourite bloggers/instagrammers blog I of course said yes! So here is the guest blog I wrote, enjoy!
Deadly is the Female interviews:
Miss Ginger Tulips
There are so many beautiful bloggers, models and gals who love the vintage style and we absolutely adore! We wanted to get together with a few to quiz them about anything and everything to do with clothing, makeup, hair, body confidence, selfie tips and so much more! In each interview we ask the lovely ladies 3 personalised questions to get an insight into each ladies lives and then we ask 5 Deadly questions which have been put together by our staff and customers that will be asked in each interview, how exciting!
This week we go international with our Deadly interview as we venture to Spain and chat with the beautiful, stylish and adorable Miss Ginger Tulips!
Miss Ginger Tulips we absolutely adore your outfit posts on Instagram, they are always so bright and fun! Can you tell us about yourself and how you came to dressing in a vintage/pinup style?
Thanks so much! I have always had a fascination for 1940’s and 50’s icons and before I started dressing full on pinup I always had a touch of vintage in my everyday style. About 4 years ago during a very difficult time in my life, very little made me happy besides dressing up and putting on that red lipstick and pretty dress so I decided to make that my reason to get up in the morning. So I made a radical change and it has brought me so much! Body confidence, happiness and it even made me meet my best friend!
We are all big fans of your blog that reviews vintage inspired clothing, accessories, makeup and so much more. Why did you start blogging? What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a blog?
I started blogging as a creative outlet. Writing was always a way for me to express myself. Blogging was something I wanted to do for a while but felt like I wouldn’t be interesting enough or have enough to say for people to read my posts. It was my boyfriend who gave me the courage and support to take the leap to do so. That would be the advice to someone who wants to start a blog. Just do it. If you feel like it, don’t let anyone hold you back!
You are based over in Sunny Spain, what can you tell us about the vintage scene in Spain? Are there many fellow pinups and vintage events? We’d love an excuse to visit Spain for a vintage event!
Unfortunately in the region of Alicante, where I live the scene is not too big. There is an amazing Lindy Hop dancing scene and dancing events are hosted which I regularly attend. There is definitely a bigger scene over in the two biggest cities, Barcelona and Madrid. I am dying to be able to visit High Rockabilly in Calafell, near Barcelona. Next year hopefully I will be able to attend!
The five Deadly Questions.
What is your most treasured piece in your wardrobe and why?
The most treasured piece in my wardrobe must be my 1953 red floral true vintage dress. It is quite difficult to find volup true vintage that fits like a glove and this dress looks like it was made for me. She only makes appearances on special days since she is quite delicate!
What is your top hair and makeup styling tip?
The best advice to give will sound super cliché but it is true! Practice makes perfect, and watch and learn! I used to be a disaster in doing hair and by trial and error I figured it out! I watched, and still do, a lot of Pin-up YouTubers and find inspiration in pictures. Over time you will find your favourite products to create your looks, and it will be easy as pie!
What is your top tip for taking a good selfie or photo?
Have fun!! Smile! Enjoy and don’t feel self conscious because you are taking a selfie. It is perfectly fine to enjoy taking a picture of yourself!
What 1 piece of advice would you give to girls who aspire to dress in the vintage style or aspire to be a model/blogger?
With regards to starting to dress in the vintage style, just start! I promise you won’t regret it! Remember that perfectionist a style comes with time and enjoy that time. To build your closet, start with good quality separates, good foundation wear, some dresses you have fallen in love with and start rocking it. For getting into modelling and building up a portfolio I would definitely recommend only working with people that are reliable and professional and not to choose just any kind of photographer. Do your research. There are many people out there that will offer their services to you but remember that they will have access and own all the footage that is made as well.
If you could have any item that is currently in stock from Deadly is the Female, what would it be and why?
Oh goodness, that is almost impossible to choose but I would have to say it would have to be something by Micheline Pitt! I am absolutely blown away by her collections and the amazing quality. If I would choose one item, I would go for the Vixen Swing Skirt in The Frisky Fetish print.
Thank you to the absolutely gorgeous and oh so kind Miss Ginger Tulips for taking part in our Deadly interview. Be sure to check out Miss Ginger Tulips blog and follow her on Instagram @missgingertulips.
